The bottom left scene shows Jesus as a boy of about 12, explaining the scriptures to the doctors of the law in the Temple and Jerusalem. The bearded figure in the foreground is Joseph of Arimathaea, who became a secret disciple. Jesus’s parents Mary and Joseph look on in astonishment. Joseph of Arimathaea was a member of the Jewish Sanhedrin, the supreme council at Jerusalem, who gave his own tomb for Jesus’s burial.
