The Reverend Thomas Ayscough came to Cradley from Tenbury Wells in 1892; a cultured and scholarly man, he wrote articles on aspects of the church and was a Steward of the Three Choirs Festival. Thomas’s death is recorded in Buckingham; his wife and their 4 children are buried in Cradley. Francis, the eldest, became a merchant in Shanghai; their second son, Ralph Fearon was a Royal Navy captain and woodcarver; in 1933, he presented to Cradley Church the cupboard at the back of the church, carved with Biblical sea scenes.
